SEPLA Declaration in solidarity with The teaching workers of the FACSO – UNA

The Latin American Society for Political Economy and Critical Thought, SEPLA, expresses its rejection to the arbitrariness that takes place in the recently created Faculty of Social Sciences of the National University of Asunción, which are expressed in the lay-off of 27 teaching workers of the subject Professional Approach, of which 24 are women, some with more than 20 years of practice teacher, thus affecting elementary labor rights such as job stability and a decent retirement.

SEPLA stands in solidarity with the Union of Workers of the Faculty of Sciences Social of the National University of Asunción (SITRAFACSO – UNA), and observes with regret what We understand as a clear union persecution that has gained strength in the region in the framework of the neoliberal advance.

We urge the FACSO government bodies to retrace the path of union persecution and resume dialogue between all parties with a clear commitment to building the knowledge and social ethics, through democratic, plural institutional management, open to debate of ideas accordingly in a public university with outstanding debts to paraguayan society and its future perspective.

We encourage FACSO – UNA teaching workers to strengthen their organized participation and not to decline in the defense of their labor rights and in the fight for a free public university and of quality; which we understand, cannot be the result of the precariousness of working conditions of the workers.
