Colloquium “Bolivia: Current Situation, Validity of the Socialist Project, and Perspectives”
The Institute of Political Economy (IEP) of the Open University of Recoleta (UAR), Chile, in conjunction with the Society of Political Economy and Critical Thought of Latin America (SEPLA), will hold a long-duration seminar on the "Relevance of Marxist Political Economy".1 Its objective is to stimulate reflection and study around the core principles that underpin the Institute's activities. To achieve this, a series of colloquia and other activities will be conducted, encompassing a wide range of topics, all of which contribute to framing the current debate in the field of critical political economy, with the goal of constructing a programmatic project for social transformation. The first block and theme correspond to the international reality, the current relevance of the socialist project, and the prospects within the framework of global power dynamics. At this level, priority has been given to addressing the situation of at least three Latin American countries: Cuba and Venezuela (already covered), and Bolivia. Subsequently, the focus will shift towards the situations in China, Vietnam, Middle Eastern countries (Iran, Syria), Russia, and conclude with the Russia-Ukraine war and current geopolitics, and their consequences for the global socialist project. 1st Forum “Social Security and Pensions: Regaining Initiative from the World of Work” on June 6
Call for Participation The Society of Political Economy and Critical Thinking of Latin America (SEPLA) is pleased to invite all interested parties to participate in the 1st Forum "Social Security and Pensions: Regaining Initiative from the World of Work". This event will take place on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. The objective of this forum is to create a space for debate and reflection on the current challenges in the field of social security and pensions from a critical perspective. Relevant topics such as privatization of social security, profit in this area, and alternatives to strengthen and ensure a fair and equitable system will be addressed. Distinguished experts will serve as speakers for this edition. We will have the participation of Antonio Elías from Uruguay, Luis Mesina from Chile, Orlando Villabona from Colombia, and Juan Miguel Fernández from Spain. Each of them will contribute their insights and experiences regarding the challenges and potential solutions in the realm of social security and pensions. The moderation will be led by Josefina Morales, SEPLA representative in Mexico.
